[Unfiltered. Let's see how long it takes Ken to realize this.]

[Ken sits on the edge of the fountain in Espoir, frowning into the camera in aggrieved confusion, as if it personally has done him some disservice.]

Uh... this is probably gonna sound dumb but Does anyone know what kind of stuff you get a girl you like that isn't totally stupid or creepy?

[The head and neck of a toy giraffe are just visible in the lower right hand corner of the frame. Ken glances over at it as he speaks, then shoves it quickly down in an attempt to get it out of shot, without any real noticeable success. An awkward look flickers across his face. Great, so he's already seriously regretting deciding to ask this question and he hasn't even finished saying it yet...]

And I'm not gonna do flowers.

[The feed cuts off quickly.]

[kitties?]

Mmm... what kinds of things does she like? A childhood friend of mine would love it if she received some sort of tool or machine part... but I'm not sure that applies the same way in this situation.

[cheerfully:] But! I think that whatever you give her, she'll like it. It's the thought that counts, right?

[KITTIES ARE NEVER INAPPROPRIATE.]

Hm... well, I know she likes sweet things. Ice cream and stuff. And jewelery, but I thought that might freak her out, we're just friends right now really. I got her a wombat for her birthday but I kinda thought maybe it wasn't... you know, what you should give a girl you really like?

I just don't want her to think I'm creepy, you know? Man, this is really difficult!

[BUT EVERYONE LOVES KITTIES!]

[Also, Al's totally not getting that you like her...]

You could buy her ice cream?

[just pulling things out of his butt now... mostly things that he'd enjoy. 83 At least he hasn't suggested you get her a cat]

You could bake her something~ if she likes sweet things.

[AND SO THEY SHOULD.]

I guess... I did that not so long ago, though. I don't want her to get bored, either.

[Yeah, maaaybe he's overthinking this a bit?]

I'm not sure about baking, though. I mean, it's nice, but-- well, I'm really not so good at it. I don't wanna give her food poisoning.

[just maybe...]

[The not giving her food poisoning is a good point, but saying that would be kind of rude...]

I was thinking chocolate strawberries or something, I'm pretty sure she'd like those. Most people like strawberries, right?

[awkward silence... what do you say if you don't remember what strawberries taste like...?]

[Trying to sound optimistic here:]
I...'m sure she'd love that!

[And yes, it is quite bad to give someone]

Well... if you're sure you're gonna be okay?

[I won't mind if you ain't, you know. It's fine not to be fine sometimes, too.]

I hope so. It seems like the kind of thing she'd be into. Better than this stupid giraffe.

You think?

[Honestly, he's been half-considering trying to find a small child to give the thing to...]

Yeah... I did. I figured she'd want something more romantic though.

[Thinks about this]

But, if you sell them, it means you're really passionate about them, right? So wouldn't she like it more...? [He might not know a thing about romance, but at least he's... reasonable. Kind of.]

Because... Winry builds automail. And she's surrounded by it all the time. But, I think she'd really love it if we got her something... [uh... what exactly do automail mechanics like anyways...?] ... automail-related.

Huh... never thought of it that way before. But I guess you're right, maybe she would like it if I got her flowers. Least I know what I'm talkin' about and didn't just buy 'em from a convenience store or somethin', right?

[Sounds reasonable enough to him, Al! Then again, this kind of logic's doomed Ken before...]

Is Winry a friend of yours? Back home, I mean.
