[Unfiltered. Let's see how long it takes Ken to realize this.]

[Ken sits on the edge of the fountain in Espoir, frowning into the camera in aggrieved confusion, as if it personally has done him some disservice.]

Uh... this is probably gonna sound dumb but Does anyone know what kind of stuff you get a girl you like that isn't totally stupid or creepy?

[The head and neck of a toy giraffe are just visible in the lower right hand corner of the frame. Ken glances over at it as he speaks, then shoves it quickly down in an attempt to get it out of shot, without any real noticeable success. An awkward look flickers across his face. Great, so he's already seriously regretting deciding to ask this question and he hasn't even finished saying it yet...]

And I'm not gonna do flowers.

[The feed cuts off quickly.]

[NOR CAN KEN. This may well be the problem.]

Yeah, like... like, uh... like flowers or something. Girls like flowers. But I can't do that.

[this is definitely not the greatest brainstorming session...]

Uhn...? Why not?

Well, we both sell 'em. She'd think it was lame or something.

[Thinks about this]

But, if you sell them, it means you're really passionate about them, right? So wouldn't she like it more...? [He might not know a thing about romance, but at least he's... reasonable. Kind of.]

Because... Winry builds automail. And she's surrounded by it all the time. But, I think she'd really love it if we got her something... [uh... what exactly do automail mechanics like anyways...?] ... automail-related.

Huh... never thought of it that way before. But I guess you're right, maybe she would like it if I got her flowers. Least I know what I'm talkin' about and didn't just buy 'em from a convenience store or somethin', right?

[Sounds reasonable enough to him, Al! Then again, this kind of logic's doomed Ken before...]

Is Winry a friend of yours? Back home, I mean.

[nods] She was our neighbor when we were younger.

And our automail mechanic, too.

Auto...

[Who put what in the where now? Is that like... cars and stuff? Yeah, you mentioned that stuff before, Al, and I had no idea what it was last time and guess what, I still don't.]

Automail? [uh... how does one go about explaining this...? Especially when one really isn't sure how exactly it works...]

It's... prosthetic limbs, basically.

So it's kinda like a family business? That's pretty neat. It's great when you can make a living outta something you enjoy like that...

[He may sound a little wistful.]

Oh... well... flowers are nice~ I'm learning a lot about them! Like how they have their own language.

[He assumes you know this, but isn't saying that... just in case he's wrong.]

[Don't do that. You weren't to know.]

They've got several, actually... I'm pretty sure the Western one isn't the same as ours. Hell, it ain't the same as other Western noes. It's kinda weird when you think about it.

[nodding; he'd read something about that somewhere...]

I suppose they're like different dialects? Though, I think I read somewhere that a particular type of flower stood for lust in one region and chastity in another?

Yeah, they're weird like that. It's kinda confusing, we'd say anenomes meant sincerity but it's totally the opposite in the West half the time, it's just... well, it's weird. Some of 'em are the same, though. Red roses mean the same damn thing everywhere.

Love, right~?

But it'd be too common-place to give her a red rose, then? [...Al is kind of misinterpreting 'love' here... pfff, romantic love... what the heck is that anyways?]

That's the one.

Man, she'd really think I wasn't trying if I did that! Probably think I was spending too much time round Youji, too... It's... it's just kinda too easy, you know?
